Refining

Refining companies receive milled metal which consists of fine particulate as well as scrap.  They reliquefy the metal in a furnace. Using various processes they message the molten metal in various ways, which separates the pure metal from other precious and less precious metals. A sample is then taken to a lab for tests, or assays, that measure the metal content and purity.
